Meet Almond – A Sweet, Gentle, and Smart Dutch Shepherd Puppy Ready for His Forever Home!

Meet Almond! Almond is a 4-month-old Dutch Shepherd puppy with a gentle soul, a bright mind, and a heart full of devotion. Rescued and thriving in Lockhart, TX, this handsome young boy is a medium-sized puppy (26–60 lbs) who is already house-trained, vaccinated, and completely ready to find a loving family to grow up with.

Almond is a sweet, observant pup who is happiest right by your side. While he can be a little shy when first meeting new people, it only takes a brief moment for him to warm up and let his friendly, kiss-giving personality shine through. He loves the company of other dogs and gets along great with children, making him a wonderful candidate for an engaged, loving household.

True to his working breed heritage, Almond is incredibly smart and loves to learn. Because he is highly food-motivated, training sessions are an absolute breeze—he is already picking up potty training quickly! Unlike many young working breeds, Almond isn't heavily toy-motivated yet and has shown low prey drive so far. He notices people and activity around him with calm curiosity rather than reactivity, bringing a sweet, grounded presence to his environment.

More than anything, Almond craves companionship. Whether he’s learning new obedience commands or simply hanging out nearby, his absolute favorite place in the world is right next to his person. He is looking for a family who will continue building his confidence through positive exposure, clear structure, and training as he grows into an incredible adult dog.

If you’re searching for an intelligent, sweet, and deeply loyal companion to share life’s journey with—Almond is ready to meet you!

Apply to foster or adopt at WorkDogRescue.org today to learn more about Almond and give this deserving boy the forever family he’s been waiting for!

Something to Consider:

Puppies don't train themselves

If you aren’t willing to train a puppy every single day, don’t get a puppy! It isn’t a one-shot deal. You have to be dedicated. And if you aren’t making progress – find someone who can help. Enroll in a puppy training class or hire a trainer. Most cities across the nation have some sort of availability for this kind of help and at different cost levels that would fit your budget.

Puppies are going to poop a lot and pee even more; chew on everything; bite everyone; scratch people and furniture; steal things; destroy something at some point; pull on the leash; not move at all on the leash; bark; cry; beg for attention; and the list goes on. You’re going to have to walk them, bathe them, pick up everything below waist height, buy new shoes, and most importantly: TRAIN THE PUPPY NOT TO DO THESE THINGS! Ultimately, it is your responsibility to teach your puppy that this behavior is unacceptable.

This is going to happen every time and incredibly fast. Please, the next time you have the thought, “I want a puppy!” replace the word “PUPPY” with “DOG.”

If your excitement goes down, even the slightest amount, don’t get a puppy.

The average lifespan for a dog is 12 years. The wondrous smell of puppy breath only last a few months. This means you have waaay more time owning a dog than a puppy. We frequently have puppies returned to us for a variety of reasons. Often this results in an extremely adoptable 8 week old puppy being returned a few months later as an 8 month old train-wreck.

And… if you just ‘honest to God’ love puppies and wish they never turned into dogs, we have a great option for you – you can foster puppies! You get to help a life in need, get all the fun that comes along with puppies, and never have to have a dog! WIN, WIN!!! Please visit our fostering page for more information.
