10 MonthsMeet McDermott – A Resilient, Sweet, and Gentle Survivor Ready for His Forever Home!
McDermott is a handsome young mixed breed pup with a gentle soul, a quiet sweetness, and a heart as big as his story. His journey began with a scary chapter—he was found along the shoulder of a road after being hit by a car, barely able to stand. Thanks to a hero of a Good Samaritan who rushed him to an emergency vet and covered his lifesaving care, McDermott was given a second chance. Today, this resilient, medium-sized boy (26–60 lbs) is safe, fully house-trained, up-to-date on vaccines, and recovering beautifully in a dedicated medical foster home.
Every day, McDermott gets a little stronger and shows more of his wonderful, balanced personality. He is a smart, gentle, and quiet boy who loves the simple pleasures in life—especially soaking up the Texas sunshine while keeping his foster family company. Just recently, he happily lay outside in the yard while his foster mom gardened, content simply to be included and near the people he loves.
McDermott is an absolute dream when it comes to social harmony. He is dog-friendly, completely adores cats, has zero interest in bothering goats, and respectfully observes farm chickens. He is an exceptionally good listener who responds wonderfully to gentle human guidance, proving just how smart, loyal, and adaptable he truly is. While he has a fun, playful side, he is currently taking it easy while his body fully heals, but he’ll soon be ready for moderate games and neighborhood walks!
McDermott’s journey has already proven his incredible resilience. He is a deeply affectionate, kiss-giving companion who asks for so little—just a loving home to remind him that the hard days are forever behind him.
If you’re searching for a gentle, loyal, and sweet-natured best friend to watch bloom into his full potential—McDermott is ready to meet you.

Something to Consider:
Puppies don't train themselves
If you aren’t willing to train a puppy every single day, don’t get a puppy! It isn’t a one-shot deal. You have to be dedicated. And if you aren’t making progress – find someone who can help. Enroll in a puppy training class or hire a trainer. Most cities across the nation have some sort of availability for this kind of help and at different cost levels that would fit your budget.
Puppies are going to poop a lot and pee even more; chew on everything; bite everyone; scratch people and furniture; steal things; destroy something at some point; pull on the leash; not move at all on the leash; bark; cry; beg for attention; and the list goes on. You’re going to have to walk them, bathe them, pick up everything below waist height, buy new shoes, and most importantly: TRAIN THE PUPPY NOT TO DO THESE THINGS! Ultimately, it is your responsibility to teach your puppy that this behavior is unacceptable.
Puppies turn into dogs...
This is going to happen every time and incredibly fast. Please, the next time you have the thought, “I want a puppy!” replace the word “PUPPY” with “DOG.”
If your excitement goes down, even the slightest amount, don’t get a puppy.
The average lifespan for a dog is 12 years. The wondrous smell of puppy breath only last a few months. This means you have waaay more time owning a dog than a puppy. We frequently have puppies returned to us for a variety of reasons. Often this results in an extremely adoptable 8 week old puppy being returned a few months later as an 8 month old train-wreck.
And… if you just ‘honest to God’ love puppies and wish they never turned into dogs, we have a great option for you – you can foster puppies! You get to help a life in need, get all the fun that comes along with puppies, and never have to have a dog! WIN, WIN!!! Please visit our fostering page for more information.
