Meet Mabel Rae – A Loyal, Gentle, and Affectionate Guardian Mix Ready for Her Forever Home!
Mabel Rae is a magnificent 3-year-old female Anatolian Shepherd mix with a gentle heart, a brave spirit, and an unwavering devotion to her people. Currently fostered right here in San Antonio, Mabel Rae is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, house-trained, and on monthly heartworm prevention—making her 100% turn-key and ready to join her forever family!
Mabel Rae is a large, regal girl (61–100 lbs) who beautifully embodies the best traits of livestock guardian breeds. While she may take a brief moment to warm up to new faces, once you enter her inner circle, you are family for life. She is a total “professional cuddler” whose absolute favorite spot is curled up right beside you on the couch, soaking up belly rubs, snuggles, and showering her favorite humans with sweet kisses.
This smart lady already knows basic commands like sit, paw, and lay down, and because she is extremely treat-motivated, continuing her training will be an absolute joy. True to her heritage, Mabel Rae thrives when she has access to the great outdoors. She loves sniffing, exploring, and taking in her surroundings at her own pace, so a home with a securely fenced yard or property where she can safely stretch her legs will make her dreams come true.
Mabel Rae is an absolute gem with her foster family! She does wonderfully with the children in her foster home and loves playing with their 6-year-old dog. While she hasn’t been tested with cats or traditional livestock, her gentle and steady nature makes her a fantastic candidate for an active, committed household with space for a loyal protector.
If you’re searching for a devoted, intelligent, and deeply affectionate best friend who will always have your back—Mabel Rae is ready to come home.

Something to Consider:
Puppies don't train themselves
If you aren’t willing to train a puppy every single day, don’t get a puppy! It isn’t a one-shot deal. You have to be dedicated. And if you aren’t making progress – find someone who can help. Enroll in a puppy training class or hire a trainer. Most cities across the nation have some sort of availability for this kind of help and at different cost levels that would fit your budget.
Puppies are going to poop a lot and pee even more; chew on everything; bite everyone; scratch people and furniture; steal things; destroy something at some point; pull on the leash; not move at all on the leash; bark; cry; beg for attention; and the list goes on. You’re going to have to walk them, bathe them, pick up everything below waist height, buy new shoes, and most importantly: TRAIN THE PUPPY NOT TO DO THESE THINGS! Ultimately, it is your responsibility to teach your puppy that this behavior is unacceptable.
Puppies turn into dogs...
This is going to happen every time and incredibly fast. Please, the next time you have the thought, “I want a puppy!” replace the word “PUPPY” with “DOG.”
If your excitement goes down, even the slightest amount, don’t get a puppy.
The average lifespan for a dog is 12 years. The wondrous smell of puppy breath only last a few months. This means you have waaay more time owning a dog than a puppy. We frequently have puppies returned to us for a variety of reasons. Often this results in an extremely adoptable 8 week old puppy being returned a few months later as an 8 month old train-wreck.
And… if you just ‘honest to God’ love puppies and wish they never turned into dogs, we have a great option for you – you can foster puppies! You get to help a life in need, get all the fun that comes along with puppies, and never have to have a dog! WIN, WIN!!! Please visit our fostering page for more information.
