Meet Buddy – An Observant Adventurer with a Soft Spot for Cuddles!

Buddy is a handsome 3-year-old, 55-pound Shepherd mix who offers the absolute best of both worlds: high-octane outdoor fun paired with an easygoing indoor “off switch.” Saved from a tough start on the streets back in late 2024, Buddy has transformed into a healthy, thriving, house-trained, and crate-trained boy who is fully ready to find his forever handler.

Outside, Buddy is in full explorer mode. He is a keen-eyed, athletic guy who doesn’t miss a thing—constantly scanning the landscape, watching for movement, and ready for a good chase or pounce. With his high prey drive and active mind, Buddy will thrive with an adopter who understands an environmentally focused working-breed mix and can provide fun outlets for his drive (along with a securely fenced yard to explore safely).

Then comes the magic: once he steps inside, Buddy flips the switch! Underneath that busy outdoor brain is a deeply affectionate, gentle companion who wants nothing more than to settle in and be right by your side. Buddy is famous for leaning in for cuddles, giving warm hugs, and soaking up quality time with his humans. He is also wonderfully social with other large dogs, blossoming when he gets to play and be included as part of the family pack.

Buddy is looking for a home that appreciates both sides of his incredible personality—the sharp, adventurous partner on the trail and the loyal, content cuddle bug on the couch.

If you’re searching for a smart, athletic, and deeply devoted best friend to share your life and adventures—Buddy is ready to come home.

Apply to foster or adopt at WorkDogRescue.org today to learn more about Buddy and give this deserving boy the forever family he’s been waiting for!

**Meet and greets are scheduled following pre-approval.**

Something to Consider:

Puppies don't train themselves

If you aren’t willing to train a puppy every single day, don’t get a puppy! It isn’t a one-shot deal. You have to be dedicated. And if you aren’t making progress – find someone who can help. Enroll in a puppy training class or hire a trainer. Most cities across the nation have some sort of availability for this kind of help and at different cost levels that would fit your budget.

Puppies are going to poop a lot and pee even more; chew on everything; bite everyone; scratch people and furniture; steal things; destroy something at some point; pull on the leash; not move at all on the leash; bark; cry; beg for attention; and the list goes on. You’re going to have to walk them, bathe them, pick up everything below waist height, buy new shoes, and most importantly: TRAIN THE PUPPY NOT TO DO THESE THINGS! Ultimately, it is your responsibility to teach your puppy that this behavior is unacceptable.

This is going to happen every time and incredibly fast. Please, the next time you have the thought, “I want a puppy!” replace the word “PUPPY” with “DOG.”

If your excitement goes down, even the slightest amount, don’t get a puppy.

The average lifespan for a dog is 12 years. The wondrous smell of puppy breath only last a few months. This means you have waaay more time owning a dog than a puppy. We frequently have puppies returned to us for a variety of reasons. Often this results in an extremely adoptable 8 week old puppy being returned a few months later as an 8 month old train-wreck.

And… if you just ‘honest to God’ love puppies and wish they never turned into dogs, we have a great option for you – you can foster puppies! You get to help a life in need, get all the fun that comes along with puppies, and never have to have a dog! WIN, WIN!!! Please visit our fostering page for more information.
